Turku Protein Core (TuProtCore) is a one-stop-shop open access core facility that helps internal and external users with their protein-related tasks. It includes vast basic and advanced infrastructure from both Åbo Akademi University and University of Turku and has capabilities to assist researchers in moving their project from protein expression to biophysical characterization to protein crystallization.
Our main goal is to provide training and access to its facilities for members of the research groups at Åbo Akademi University and University of Turku as well as the research community in general. Projects are undertaken on a service basis. Our services range from providing access to instrumentation to full determination of recombinant protein expression and purification profiles to production of milligram quantities of protein with high purity standards for downstream research application.
The core includes well-maintained both general and special instrumentation and open to everyone for use. Research staff members from the respective departments are maintaining the core equipment, provide training to new users (if needed) and work with researchers to make the best use of the instrumentation, and oversee scheduling. Most of the core instrumentation allows researchers to make use on a regular basis unassisted by core personnel after some initial training.
TuProtCore is governed by a steering committee composed of expert representatives from all major departments and faculties from both universities contributing to the activities.
